Peters Creek

January 5th and we just did a quick hop down to Peters Creek. This was built up to be a fantastic area, but it was so well endowed with snow, that I think some of the appeal got a little buried ;-) It was beautiful all the same.

Photo (c) Monty SloanSidra came along and I took a few photos, but she was not really into the trip. Maybe there was too much snow for her as well ;-) Anyway, this was a very short trip. Oh, if you are wondering, the leash magically dissappeared thanks to Photoshop ;-)

Water, well, moving water such as one might find in a river or creek perhaps? has a tendency to do interesting things up here. They call them ice dams. A river which would not normally flood, may get all dammed up with ice and cause local flooding. We could see plenty of evidence for minor flooding even here. Areas of Peters Creek which should have been nice and safe gravel bars and banks to walk out in, were 2-3 feet deep at least with ice. Trees along some paths were also a bit laden with snow, so much so that they were laying on the ground. It made for some very nice photography, but Sid wanted to go home so we went home.

It was almost 3:00 pm, the sun was about to set, so I decided to head out and just take more photos at Thunderbird Creek. This time I headed up above the falls. I carefully climbed up to and then laid down along this little outcropping of rock and holding my camera carefully over the edge, I was able to get some interesting photos of the creek below. I also pointed the camera in the other direction -- straight up. So, I have photos looking up and down and all around :-)

After all that time photographing in the snow and cold, it was time for an Alaskan treat. French Fries! Um, the fries are a tad bit different up here, a little odd in coloration if you ask me... Photo (c) Monty SloanPurple fries? Yum. Or would that be erb?
