| | Animal Ark Day Two! |
The next morning I got a really cute photo of Otter, one of Sue's dogs. Just had to add Otter to the page :-)
Then, Khan revisited. This time he was much more cooperative. He had broken a tooth the evening before and maybe that was making him a bit more subdued. I got a really good photo of his teeth when he yawned for the vet to look at (it's not always possible to get a tiger to cooperate and show his teeth so this photo ended up being very useful, but I'll spare viewers the gory looking broken tooth on this site). Although Khan was cooperative, he did spend a lot of time really close to the fence so I opted to use my 20mm and 28-70 lenses and even experimented a bit with a flash to maintain the background and I'm fairly happy with the photos.
We then got a real treat. Mace Loftus lives just up the road from Animal Ark. He has a number of wolves there and has them trained to go out and be photographed in wild settings. Axel, Rayna's brother and littermate to the two Arctic wolves at the IWC and a younger born in 2001, Rockey, got to go. They were very excited and rambunctious, but after a few minutes of greeting people, spent the rest of the hour or so we were out exploring and checking out this beautiful rock formation which was just up the road. Mace brought along hotdog pieces which got the wolves to pose, very similar to what I do at Wolf Park with the pack for my photo seminars.
I took over 300 photos in the short time we were out. Just a few of them are here. I also rolled over the counter on my camera! For some reason digital cameras only give a 4 digit number for the photos. That means rolling over the number every 10,000 photos. That may sound like a lot, but in less than three months, I have now shot that many!
On the way back to the vehicles, I took a photograph of what the rock formation looked like at a distance. As you can see, it was quite striking. Also striking was the sunset that day. It started as something which looked quite bland, but after a few minutes, the sky turned deep red. What a beautiful end to a great day.
