December 16, 2001 and Day four of my England trip. I had another great night with Lisa and Peter who work at the Trust and back as early as we could muster, to the Trust. Actually we were late, well, later than originally planned, but what was a nice sunny day before, had turned into an overcast, thankfully rainless, day. As a photographer, sun is not necessarily good. It is wonderful around sunrise and sunset, beautiful golden light, but mid day, nothing but harsh light and shadows. Overcast is far preferred, but when overcast, there simply is not enough light for photos around sunrise and sunset so midday is better.
Roger Palmer decided I should get photos of all the wolves, not just the Europeans, so I started with the pair who are not part of the pack, and I managed a cute photo with Roger.
But then back to European wolves in the photo pen They were amped. I took more than 300 photos of them (thankfully digital so it did not cost me anything). They spent over an hour running up and down the hills, rallying, having a grand time. I think I took more good interaction photos in this short time than I have managed at Wolf Park in the past year! Again, the only problem was the lack of light - in England the sun is low on the horizon in December, lower than what I'm used to in Indiana, and with the overcast, well, I needed to set the camera to an ISO of 800 to capture the action clearly. Even then, a number of the photos were blurred the wolves were moving so fast!
After the European wolves, the two American Wolf females were put in the photo pen. I guess all 5 could have been done at once, but this worked well enough. I even got a nice photo of Lisa getting a kiss from one of the girls.
I will just put all the images below - lots and lots of them. Hard to choose which ones I like so, well, I'll not be picky. Keep in mind this is just a few of the 300+ I shot this morning.
